Presented here are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about our target systems. Please
contact us for more information, or if your question is not answered here.
Why a Turning Target?
Because a static target is just that. Static. Using a turning target adds a dimension to your skills training that is unsurpassed. Given the "pressure" of getting two or more rounds off, on target, from the holster, in two seconds, and being accurate and safe is a skill that can be immeasurable.
If you need an exact timed target presentation (for recreational bullseye shooters or law enforcement testing/training), and want to reduce "late" shots, a target that effectively disappears (turns 90 degrees) automatically after the prescribed time interval is extremely helpful.
What makes Targeting Technologies turning target platforms different than other turning targets?
Link multiple turning target units together to create realistic, complex courses of fire
or multiple shooting lanes.
Requires no external power source because each unit operates on its own batteries.
Small electric motor makes it quiet, so you are given no warning when it is about to turn.
Lightweight and disassembles, so it is extremely portable
- easily fits in the trunk of a car.
It takes just a few minutes to setup and connect together any number of units.
Many of the
target platform parts can be repaired "in the field" if they are damaged.

How does the random time-delay start work?
Simply press the "random" button on the wireless remote control, and get in your ready position! The target will be presented automatically after a 1 to 10 second delay. The presentation time can be adjusted with a control knob on the back of the unit. The delay time is random and different every time. Among the many scenerios, simulate walking up to, away from, or by a potential adversary. You won't know when the target will turn. Excellent for testing response and reaction time.
How long do the batteries last?
If you are using good-quality batteries, the 9-volt battery will last for about 5-7 hours of continuous "on" time, and the "D"-cell batteries will last an average of about 5,000 turns. That's a lot of shooting!
Targeting Technologies offers a rechargable battery option, which can save you money by eliminating the need to buy standard batteries. NOTE: Standard rechargable batteries will not function in the target platform because they do not supply the proper voltage. We do not recommend using other off-the-shelf rechargable batteries because we cannot guarantee the proper functioning of the target platform.
What if I accidentally shoot the base of the target platform?
The base and top plate are made of steel, and have been designed to withstand up to .45 caliber pistol ammunition. NOTE: We do not recommend shooting at the target platform with high power rifle ammunition or pistol ammunition larger than .45 caliber as damage to the base may result. Never intentionally shoot directly at the base.
What if I accidentally shoot the top of the target platform above the base? Can I repair it?
We have designed the platform to be easy to service "in the field":
The motor and gear assembly can be protected by the bullet deflector shield (sold separately) from strikes from up to .45 caliber handgun ammunition. If the shield is not used and the motor and gear assembly are hit, they can be repaired with the repair kit (sold separately).
The horizontal and vertical target backing supports are made out of inexpensive 3/4" PVC, which is easy to obtain, cut to size, and replace.
The cone that houses the motor and gear assembly can absorb many bullet strikes before losing any structural integrity thereby necessitating replacement.
How well do the turning targets perform in wind and rain?
The target platform is water resistant and can be used in the wind and rain. Excessive wind can cause the target platform to tip over; however this problem can be eliminated by attaching the target base support (sold separately), or simply placing a sand bag on the base. Do not place the platform directly in standing or running water.
What do I use for the target backing?
Cardboard or Plasticore work the best.
